Martin de Candre
Martin de Candre (MdC) is an insitution in the wet shaving world. Its soaps are famous not only for their beautiful scent and best-in-class lathering ability but for their incredibe usability, with each jar packing in enough soap for many more shaves than the average tub. The company was founded in 1974 by the Marchand Family, who manage it to this day. It's shave soaps are made using the Marseilles Hot-Process Saponification Method which entails heating and curing the soap for days. Some of MdC's soap fragrances have become iconic, setting the standard by which may are compared, inluding Fougere, Rose, and the Original Scent.

Scent Description
Martin de Candre's Original scent is deceptively simple in its composition consisting mainly of lavendar, mint, and rosemary. Yet despite its simplicity, the bouquet is rich and intensely aromatic, mimicing many of the qualities of a fougere, but with a sweeter and more floral tone. Just as with MdC Fougere, it is fresh and clean, although spicier in its herbal profile and with an added touch of mint. Although no matching splash or EDT is offered, it pairs nicely with most Fresh Aromatics including fougeres, chypres, and barbershops. It can be worn year-round and is more of a day than a night scent, and one which would be perfectly suited to leisure, sport, or the workplace.

Base Description
The Martin de Candre soap base is revered for its performance and long lasting usability. Although each jar can be 2-4x more expensive than the average tub of shaving soap, it yields many more shaves which is probably due to the Marseille Hot-Process Saponification Method which dates back to the 17th century and makes the base extremely dense. The formula is simple with only 12 ingredients consisting mainly of Coconut and Olive Oil. Yet despite its simplicity, its lather is among the richest and most dense, with class-leading cushion, strong stability, and excellent slickness. Although it’s not cheap, MdC is a classic example of "you get what you pay for" and elevates shaving to the realm of luxury. A must-have for shaving connoisseurs.
