British Sterling
Dana
Dana Classic Fragrances began life as The House of Dana, a perfumery in Barcelona, Spain, founded in 1932 by Javier Serra, a former executive of the Spanish perfume house Myrurgia. Early successes included Tabu (1932), Canoe (1935) and Emir (1936), which established Dana as a major fragrance house. Notably, Canoe was one of the earliest Fougères to gain popularity among men in the United States and is widely credited as being one of the first examples of the Barbershop genre. In 1995 after being acquired by Renaissance Cosmetics, Dana changed its strategy and began acquiring and revitalizing older brands, which today include English Leather, Canoe, British Stirling, Monsieur Musk, and multiple women's fragrances.

Scent Description
British Sterling was originally released in 1965 by Speidel and after passing to MEM in the 1970s was eventually acquired by Dana in the 1990s. The scent is extremely green with the strong presence of oakmoss straight from the onset. As it dries down, undertones of cinammon and nutmeg shine through transforming the bouquet into a sweeter, warmer and spicier melange, but one still wrapped in a classic Fougère mossiness. The scent bears the timestamp of the transitionary period between the early Fougères of the 1920s and 1930s and the fruitier accords which became popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It's a mature, classic scent, which is present enough to be noticed, but unassuming enough to remain gentlemanly. A good pairing for a daytime setting or a trip to the office.
